Glinka Pas de Trois
Choreography: George Balanchine
Staged by Marina Eglevsky
Music: Mikhail Glinka
This highly technical classical ballet was choreographed by the master George Balanchine for two ballerinas and one man. Originally created in 1955 for Andre Eglevsky, Melissa Hayden, and Allegra Kent, premiering in City Center, NY, this piece blended the Balanchine style, while paying homage to his Petipa roots. It plays and challenges the beautiful music with its steps, in total genius with solos that flow one after the other, amidst an intro, adagio and a coda. Ballet Arkansas company dancers had the honor to work with Marina Eglevsky, who staged the ballet, and whose father created the original male role.

The 2015 Visions Choreographic Competition winner, Ilya Kozadayev completes his award winning ballet with the world premiere of (e) Motions. Set to the music of Brahams and Hayden, this contemporary piece moves three couples around the stage with powerful emotional context throughout the movement. Kozadayev is one of the nation’s leading emerging choreographers having created works for Milwaukee Ballet 2, Tulsa Ballet 2 and Kansas City Ballet over the past two years
Choreography: Kiyon Gaines, Ballet Arkansas Resident Choreographer
Music: Max Richter
Kiyon Gaines of Pacific Northwest Ballet and resident choreographer for Ballet Arkansas, creates the first of three commissioned new works with the 2016 installment of Memory House. In 2013, Gaines choreographed his first work for Ballet Arkansas, Bolero, which was a crowd favorite for its energetic and vibrant style. His 2016 commission, Memory House, is in 4 sections, anchored by a full ensemble, driving the themes and phrases to the Max Richter score with a haunting female solo and reflective pas de deux in the middles sections. Ballet Arkansas is proud to have a resident choreographer who creates such exciting and challenging works for our dancers.
